Photo A Day: St. Aloysius Gonzaga, and His University
In honor of getting a new camera and needing a reason to play with it…welcome to my Photo A Day! Topic: Whatever strikes my fancy. Frequency: Daily-ish. I hope.About a hundred years ago...OK, maybe not that long...I completed an online Master's degree through Gonzaga University, and had to spend a few days out there in residency. It was a great trip, though, holy smokes! I remember it took forever to get out there...four different flights! But the area is beautiful, the on-campus experience was challenging in all sorts of good ways, and I met a bunch of really nice people, many of whom I am still in touch with. For those of you trying to figure out how a reprobate like me managed to set foot on a Jesuit campus and not burst into flame, let me just say that the Jesuits are a forgiving lot. :) Even with kind of severe statues scattered around campus, like the one of St. Aloysius...Indeed, it's the man himself and his campus church. I've always thought the cross at the top of the spire was a nice touch, and trust me when I say it's particularly ominous when it's lit up at night. I read up a little on Aloysius. Seems he was initially beatified and sainted for being chaste and dying of the plague. So...well done there. Well done indeed. Now, he's famous for education and NCAA basketball. No matter how you spin it, that's a huge improvement. For most of the year, I could not care less about college sports if I tried, but we are elbow-deep in March Madness. As an alumna I have to admit, this Final Four thing is pretty exciting. Go Bulldogs!
