Photo A Day: Spring Is Here! Spring Is Here!
In honor of getting a new camera and needing a reason to play with it…welcome to my Photo A Day! Topic: Whatever strikes my fancy. Frequency: Daily-ish. I hope. The weather has turned warm, for the most part. Flowers are opening, trees are budding, and birds are starting to strut their stuff in search of worms, bugs, and maybe some good ol' bird love. Spring is here! And with that comes the robin.American robins are abundant through much of the US, and that certainly holds true for central PA's Isle of Que. (Bird nerds take note: I do realize that robins are common in central PA, and most of the US if we are to believe the Audubon Society, which I do, but still...spring! Robins! Moving on.) They are everywhere on this little island, proudly puffing up their red breasts and reminding us that they and their European cousins are the harbingers of hundreds of years of cultural significance around the globe, heralding not only spring, but the gift of fire, the passion of Jesus, and are the doers of random acts of kindness. That's a lot of weight for a little bird to carry. But check it out. Google "robin red breast meaning" and then lose yourself for hours in the lore.Fun fact: When American robins feed primarily on honeysuckle berries, they can become intoxicated. Go home, bird. You're drunk!
