Big Beautiful World 86 - Coffee Shop, Athens

To get a feel for the food and the city of Athens, we took a walking food tour. It’s a great way to understand a city—you walk the streets, you eat the food, and you see it made by the people who are passing down centuries of tradition from their kitchens. We went with Anna from Athens Food on Foot and when Anna tells you to come hungry, she means it. By the end of the tour we were stuffed, happy, exhausted, and brimming with information about Athens and its incredible food culture. Wear sunscreen.

One of the stops on the tour was for coffee at a local cafe, and for the life of me I can’t remember the name of the place, which is too bad. The coffee was delicious, rich and dark and bitter, and it came with a little piece of Turkish delight.

While the coffee was top-notch, the view from the second floor of the shop was worth every penny of the tour.

Yes, that’s the Acropolis in the background, with the Parthenon sitting like a cherry on top. Anna, if you ever read this and can tell me where we went, I’d be forever grateful.

I also get an enormous kick out of the old-school aerial TV antenna. But that’s a different blog for a different day.
